Coming soon - Lady in a hat

Hello all!

Im so excited on putting up the next production. After a year of not using studio, shooting in one was quite a challenge. I am a sucker for natural light, I admit, but the result was amazing. This time, im using Photoshop wizard's, photoshop professional's to edit my images, due to lack of free time. Im quite excited. Now i know what the rest of my team feels :)

Models: Alba Forcada with M&P Models
Megan Galt with M&P Models

MUA and hair: Maya
Styling and Designer: Sabrina Samsoodin
Studio manager: Emma Corck

Winter feeling

So i had been planing this shoot for ages and Im so happy with it. Worked with new people as well. My adorable model Isabel Clark (Confidence Model Management), Mia as stylist assisted by Bella, hair by Takanori Yamagushi and lovely Maya as MUA. Was winter inspired: Fur and earthly tones. I always end up doing something else in my shoots besides the main theme, and in this case, one of Mia's dresses was part of the session. Black and blue stripes mixed with fur. Looked amazing!

Had a complication with card/mac/camera in the end, a bit of a chaos but thanks to my good friend Ian's help, all was recovered.

Thank you everyone for you contribution and a special thanks the Dulwich Wood House in Sydenham Hill for their great support!

Hope you like it

Charity Shoot

So I did a charity shoot last weekend. It was in honor of the children of Pakistan that suffered with the flood and are currently helpless.
I must say, Arab woman are fascinating people. These woman have strength, focus and are undeniably gorgeous. The woman that organized it all, Yasmina, amazed me with what she managed to achieved, at only 21 years of age. I cant get into much detail, but basically, there was a fashion show, in which the were professional designers and their collections: Haute Monde, Abaya Collection,Sumi Collections and Morrocan Kaftan Designer Miriam. I never realized how much you can do with Arab design. All very detailed, shinny, pretty and mainly covered! I am actually speachless: married very young, respect their religion above all, but had the possibility, courage and creativity to more than just a wife! For me, I must confess, I was amazed with their constant sense of humor and "bubblyness".

Models were: Mariya Danina,Samar Khoury, Mandavi, Helen, Chantelle, Samar Khoury, Ywenda and Uruj

MUA's: Maya, Samia Al Harthy and Alina

Love the experience, will be doing it again whenever I get the chance!

Thank you to Yasmina for the experience!

Georgina

Hello Folks,

well had a very tough week last week, though I wouldn't be able to be 100% to shoot on Wednesday, but I guess emotions come out in many ways. Take for example, this last shoot I did, weather was crap, as in, no raining, not sunny, grey, no light .. London weather basically. Maya, the MUA made magic. She managed to bring the sunlight in my pictures and Georgina, the model, made the magic happen. Very shy in the beginning, but slowly managed to bring out great expressions and made my day a better day. Maya, let me tell you, a very good helper. Sometimes its hard to be shooting and telling new models what to do, which Im fine with doing, but sometimes its hard to do both. Maya just stepped in and made Georgina feel comfortable, and guide her in a really good way! The results were amazing in my point of view. You never know how the shoot is going to end up, how the model is going to be, or even if the weather is going to change. Just rely on good people, a good team, positive people, there's nothing better!

A wedding

So, this weekend, I was "plussed 1"by my friend Brown to his brother Steve's wedding. We drove to Kent and the air was so much fresher than London ( although I AM a sucker for the pollution here :P). Anyway, I met his family who was simply the coolest family ever. Baby Lauren, was in fact the most intelligent 2 year old I had ever met. Decided to take loads of portraits of her and am really happy with them. Also, Steven and Jane's wedding, managed to squeeze in between the guests and got some really nice shots!

Put a couple on my website and of Lauren as well! Although I do work in a portrait studio, I had forgotten what it was like to take pictures of babies!

Anyway, here's Lauren :)

Amanda

Another great surprise. Amanda showed up a bit nervous and we know what that normally means. Very bubbly and positive and a hell of a great listener!! Amanda, that laughed when Viola Bea, the MUA put lipstick on her because she was ticklish on the mouth, amazed me when she started doing her "thing". Amazing personality and wanted to get the pictures right which I loved. Also , I had a little crises with what I wanted in shot and she was very patient and enthusiastic. With all that positivity, I managed to get the shot!!

Anyone looking for a new model, Amanda is definitely one of my suggestions! Once again, thank you Confidence Models for the amazing last minute model, and obviously Viola for the AMAZING work!

Hurray for us!

Confidence Models

Finally managed to have a day to shoot! Was a very sunny hot day ( I sware, doesnt even look like London). I was contacted my Confidence Models to shoot their models, and so I did. Dominika and Isabel were both lovely girls!

I had been wanting to shoot a very blurry summery shoot with flair and stuff for so long it makes me sick aha. The 2 girls were so different so Sophie, the MUA was able to do 2 completely different things! Sophie amazed me with her makeup...She was so perfectionist and patient. amazing work! Poor girls had to be under the sun and keep a great face, not to mention the reflector iiiikkk.

Anyways, have a look at the new pictures, I must say Im rather proud of them!

See you soon!

Myriam Gerard

Last week, I assisted a very nice photographer called Adam Parker. Basically, he was going to shoot Myriam Gerard's new french inspired "Revisante" lingerie line. Let me tell you about her lingerie: any woman that likes a little spice in her life, would love her! The model was Swedish, flew from LA for the shoot, and boy did she know what she was doing! Id never assisted in a proper lingerie shoot like that. The shoot was in "Mansion House"private member club, combined with Adam's work, with Myriam's amazing talent and the models knowledge, I realized once again, and confirmed once again, that you dont need a million people to make a great shoot. Obviously there's Ashlie Kuek, the Make up artist and hair stylist. He did one hell of a great job! I'm excited to see the pictures and see her rise even more. The opening event for her line was so much fun. Was in a club called "Jalouse", near bond street. I loved once again seeing it come together!

clap clap clap for you all!! and for me for carrying the heavy lights! :P

BTW this picture above was not mine :) i copy pasted it to by blog would have a pretty picture!

Assisting my mentor

OK...so there's comes a time when all you've struggled and worked for starts coming into place. I have told you before about my fav. man behind the camera, Gavin O'Neill many times. I had the pleasure of assisting him last week and have only had the time to sit down and write about it now unfortunately. When you see yourself in the same room as the person you most admire, and see him in action, words cannot explain. Gavin, not only is an amazing photographer, but is a very bubbly chilled out person! Its amazing what its like when you talk to someone that was simply born with the gift and when your talking to some arrogant photographer. This man amazed me in so many ways not even he knows. The simplicity of the way he did things, his energy and even his bright bright blue eyes left me wordless. I acted like a total ignorant/idiot around him, OBVIOUSLY, because ... well...that's what you do around people you admire so much and for so long!!! You say all the wrong things, cant open a master stand, trip on a polyboard.. but thing is: I guess he felt I was just staring at everything and was just all over the place. He inspired me even more to go on and do my thing. He showed me, once again, to use your gut as a tool!

Thank you for the millionth time, Gavin :)

Sola Studio's and Snap Studios

I must confess I am not putting up any picture because both studio's are just amazing. I am assisting both Sola Studio's and Snap Studio's. Very different from each other, these studio's are 2 of the top renting studios in London.

Snap Studios:

Has 4 studios, very different from each other, MANY MANY MANY stairs to go up and down and a very good way to lose weight. You never get to really see the photographer or model or know who's who, only when I got go inside to exchange tea or coffee. Until no, I've LOVED the experience and the adrenaline. The other assistants, Bobby and David have been there for a while and have helped me and Chloe get around. Obviously Scott, the studio manager and Steph, the boss, have been 5*! I literally had my jaw on the floor and tongue rolling when I saw these studios. Not ever have I seen such huge well equipped spaced. Not to mention the roof! OH, the view to all big shot points of London. clap clap clap for the them!

Sola Studios:

Sola, a very nice place to work. With 1 studio and the chance to see the models face and actually exchange words with production team. Its a softer mood, in terms of renting the studio, but a hard work in terms of getting light equipment all together to rent out. Sola is not just a studio rental, but also rents equipments to photographers.
Mike, the boss, is a very very very nice man and very patient from what I have seen. Laura, the assistant thats been teaching me stuff, ( oh boy there A LOT of equipment to know, you can't IMAGINE.) is a 5* girl also very patient with me and has a lot of knowledge about the equipment use which is amazing!Anyway, Sola rent out BRIESE equipment, which is Germain brand, and apparently not yet in many places for rental in London but a very big hit! You should check it out.

SO there's a bit of advertisement for both studio's. I realized i SUCK at technical stuff. Portugal had many natural weather qualities and a HUGE one was the light. I never use lights, ever.. I mean, it just wasn't necessary! The amount of light that exist to recreate the sun is huge. I shall tell you tomorrow about by outstanding day i had today, but now, off to another episode of The Tudors. Having ideas for a shoot when I get all settled.

Take care all!

They say London is gray

Dear All,

after many weeks of settling ( which is still in maintenance), I have come back to sweet London. Its been a difficult journey, but hard has never been so sweet. I ended up living near Peckham where I did, but closer to east Dulwich, and first thing I see when I leave my house is this (above).

They say Peckham is terrible and that London is gray. Well, they don't know what their saying. Sunday, and quite an alright weather, all I wanna do is go to the park and sit in the semi-sun and appreciate "dodgy" fun Peckham Park.

As you know, my last time in London didn't go as planned and ended up a lot of time alone, which in one way was good to focus on shooting, but London can be a very lonely place. This year could not have started better. I am living with 3 other really nice/clean fun girls. One, I actually barely see to be honest, but of what I'v seen shes nice. Having friends around is also great and I have that here. So loneliness doesn't ever affect you. A dear friend of mine asked me last week: "You don't really like being alone do you?" - and its not some issue I have, its just I like being around people, I like chatting, I like going to the pub and reading the paper with some1 even if its for the company, but I know how to be alone, It helps me think. Its is better to have the choice of being alone, than not having a choice at all.

Don't normally talk about what goes in my head in this blog, just very very very happy to be back and seeing many photographers and studio's that actually listen to what I have to say...

....so that doesn't make London gray at all :)

Rita, the ballet dancer

This is Rita, my dear friend. I decided to do these more simple portraits of her than to go over the top with production. Gavin, my photography guru, as I like to call him, gave me some very good tips to reach my goals. Total brainwash, but felt gr8 after a loooong night of thinking. So anyway, one of the tips he gave me was a very obvious one, which is: "less, is more" and "keep it simple". Sometimes simplicity is the best way. Doing a bit more of portraits lately and trying more beauty out. I do love fashion, but I must say beauty portraits and beauty shoots also have a very big influence in me. I guess the melancholy in it.

Thank u once again, good old Gavin!

At the Casino

Shot my dear friend Ze Manel, an amazing Portuguese singer that I dearly admire. After cutting his hair, (he had very long hairsince he was 13), he decided to do his new book for his agency with his new haircut, and asked me to shoot him, which i gladly accepted. Got some hours at Casino Lisboa, where I took some shots of him and personally were very proud of. Very nice experience =)

Take a look ate them on my website if you like!

Back to the continent

Uff! What a long month. I must say, 1 month in Brazil can be a great experience but at the same time, constant heat does affect my brain a little! After hanging out at Profcolor studios, I realized how delayed Brazil is in certain aspects of photography. For example: there was a photographer that for years used a Mamiya RZ76, which I consider one of the best cameras in the world. Unfortunately, film is so so so old school, in such am embarrassing way that he put aside the camera that made him one of the best photographers in his area. He had about 8 Rollei's and I can't count how many Mamiya's...and obviously a pair or to of Nikon's, Canon's and Pentax's! and he told me in great pain that in Brazil, even as an amateur photographer, you'd be laughed at. Let me tell you something about MF...Its a completely different aspect and way of shooting, and here in "Europe", as they like calling it, film is still part of any type of photography, both in studio and location. I'm telling you, I wanted to cry...It was such a sad image. For photography lovers, like you and me, old school is the new school, and let's be honest: digital well never reach the raw, pure quality of our good old film..specially if its medium format!
